According to this proposal, his research team participates in WP1 (coordination and management), WP4 (Task 4.2), WP5 (Task 5.2) and WP6 (Data analysis, dissemination and exploitation of results), contributing expertise of his research group on analysis and characterization of cellular signalling pathways and transcriptomic patterns driven by canonical members of the RAS family of oncoproteins (HRAS, NRAS, KRAS) and their activators by guanine nucleotide exchange belonging to the GRF and SOS families (in particular GRF1, GRF2, SOS1 and SOS2).

Professor Eugenio Santos is a Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Salamanca, Principal Investigator at the Cancer Research Centre of Salamanca

He holds a degree in Biology from the University of Salamanca (1975). After his dissertation, which he defended in Salamanca University with the extraordinary award in 1978, he moved to United States: first internship was in the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology, Nutley, Nueva Jersey (1978-1981), later he moved to the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) / National Cancer Institute of Bethesda, in Maryland, where he was a Principal Investigator (1984-1999)

Since his participation in the isolation and characterisation of the first human oncogene (H-ras), he has worked in different aspects of the structure, function and regulation of genes and proteins within the RAS family.

Since 1999 he is the Director of the Cancer Research Centre of Salamanca

He has supervised numerous doctoral thesis.

Eugenio Santos investigates the molecular mechanisms of cancer and its malignant transformation, human oncogenes, as well as signal transduction process and development and cell proliferation control in eukaryotic cells.

Among others, he has received plenty of awards and distinctions.
